Welcome to Aurora Gem Boutique
Beautiful Items Inspired by Nature - Designed for You

A little about my online shops...

I am based in semi-rural Yorkshire in the United Kingdom.  Previously I have shipped my creations all over the world, but with the current pandemic situation I am only able to send my items within the UK.  I am hopeful this situation will soon change and I can send my items overseas again.

I have two shops within Etsy - Aurora Gem Boutique sells my handmade jewellery and accessories and Garden of Devotion is a more specialised shop selling my handmade rosaries, prayer beads and Christian jewellery.  My shops are for everyone, no matter what your religious or spiritual beliefs, so in Aurora Gem Boutique you will see pieces reflecting all types of world religions.  I want all my customers to feel comfortable in my shops.

I enjoy working with minerals and semi-precious stones as there are so many variations to see, and each creation becomes unique.  You can recreate the patterns again but no two pieces can ever be exactly the same.  We are so used to buying mass produced, perfectly uniform items that it is all too easy to overlook the beauty of a bead that varies in colour or has irregular fissures and inclusions, almost as if we have been brainwashed into seeking out plastic perfection.

Most semi-precious stones are the perfect companions for silver, and this is my precious metal of choice.  Silver is very versatile, it lends itself to being highly polished, textured or oxidised and can be worked into a variety of shapes.  I love to use Hill Tribe Silver beads and charms; these are handmade using traditional methods in Thailand and on average have 97% pure silver content.

Why do I do this?  I had to leave full-time work to care for my husband who suddenly became seriously ill in 2012.  He will always need someone at home with him and the two shops help to pay for the essentials of day-to-day living as I am an unpaid carer.
